Did you see the biographical thriller, Mr. Jones (2019), directed by the Polish director Agnieszka Holland? Something similar may happen in Hong Kong soon, when China attacks Taiwan or when a US-China war breaks out as predicted by former British MP George Galloway. The film is about the Welsh journalist, Gareth Jones, who ventured into Ukraine between 1932 and 1933, and debunked the high GDP myth of the Soviet, Union, just like that of contemporary China. He specifically exposed the Holodomor, i.e., the famine genocide of Ukraine as launched by Stalin. In those days, the entire country of Russia suffered from food shortage due to the Communist collectivization policy. Meanwhile, to punish the Ukrainians for their localism and independence movement, Stalin made use of the famine to exterminate them. First, he banned grain deliveries to Ukraine. Second, he confiscated food from Ukrainian households as a sort of tax to the State. Third, he forbid Ukrainians to leave for other regions. As a consequence, around 6 million Ukrainians (Hong Kong has a population of 7 million) died of starvation.
Likewise, when a major war breaks out, the PLA will not be able to occupy Taiwan, let alone to beat the US Military. USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 has entered the South China Sea, probably to watch the PLA closely lest that it would attack Taiwan during the US Presidential Election; Xi Jinping has gone to Chaozhou to inspect the military drill in Gure Peninsula in the proximity of Taiwan; Shenzhen Emergency Management Bureaus has already issued a notice to instruct the residents there to accumulate food, water and other emergency tools and materials.
Note: Mr. Jones received Grand Prix Golden Lions at the 44th Gdynia Film Festival 2019. After being banned from re-entering the Soviet Union, Gareth Jones was kidnapped and murdered in 1935 while investigating in Japanese-occupied Mongolia, his murder likely by the Russian secret police.
